The Department of Chemistry at the University of Oslo is inviting applications for a full-time Associate Professor position in Nuclear Chemistry.

As Norway’s leading institution for research and education in chemistry, the department offers a dynamic research environment, excellent laboratory infrastructure, and strong industry and academic collaborations. This position is also affiliated with the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre, a joint initiative with NMBU and IFE, aimed at strengthening nuclear research and competence in Norway.

🔬 About the Role

The Nuclear Chemistry group focuses on:

  • Radiochemical separation techniques
  • Spent nuclear fuel processing
  • Nuclear medicine and imaging
  • Neutron activation analysis
  • Detector development and reactor safety

The group operates class B/C radiochemical labs, a newly installed DT neutron generator, and collaborates internationally—such as with the Czech Technical University on unique radiochemistry setups for short-lived nuclei.

The successful candidate will contribute to both research and teaching, offering courses in general, nuclear, physical, and inorganic chemistry, and supervising Master’s and PhD students.

✅ Candidate Profile

Required:

  • PhD in nuclear chemistry or radiochemistry
  • Strong research output over the last five years
  • Ability to lead and attract funding for research projects
  • Teaching experience and commitment to pedagogical development
  • Proficiency in English and willingness to learn Norwegian

Desirable:

  • Leadership and grant acquisition experience
  • Industry collaboration background
  • Strong international network and outreach involvement
