NURECAB Project

DESCRIPTION of the Project

NURECAB is a 24-month Coordination and Support Action related to the implementation of the Euratom Work Programme 2023-2025, with a focus on education, training, nuclear young generation capacity building, and networking activities to strengthen Ukrainian and EU nuclear research collaboration.

NURECAB’s ambition is to support the further integration of the Ukrainian nuclear research community into European research networks and the Euratom Research and Training Programme, with a focus on improving Ukraine’s educational and training frameworks. This aims to build human capacity, ensure the safe operation of Ukrainian nuclear installations, and foster inclusive collaboration in both fission and fusion research.

NURECAB’s implementation is structured into six Work Packages:

WP1

NUCLEAR EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT: IDENTIFYING GAPS AND STRENGTHENING PATHWAYS

WP1 is aimed at identifying and addressing the gaps between existing nuclear education programs and the needs of Ukraine’s nuclear industry.

Objectives of WP1:

  • Closing the knowledge gaps between the corresponding existing education programmes and the actual labor market needs of the national nuclear sector;
  • Developing new advanced training courses for core Ukrainian Universities in the area of nuclear education and their integration into the educational process.

WP1 leader: Odesа Polytechnic National University

WP2

STAFF TRAINING FOR UA EURATOM STAKEHOLDERS

WP2 focuses on enhancing the knowledge and competence of faculty members and researchers from Ukrainian universities, as well as the staff of the Euratom NCP, related to nuclear education, research, and innovation, as well as European funding for research and training in nuclear fission and fusion, with an emphasis on the safe and reliable operation of nuclear facilities in Ukraine.

Objectives of WP2:

  • Support of competence improvement and knowledge exchange in nuclear education area;
  • Reinforcement of Ukrainian stakeholders’ knowledge and best practices exchange related to international cooperation under the EU Horizon Europe and Euratom Programmes;
  • Strengthening of Euratom NCP staff skills and improvement of NCP quality of services.

WP2 leader: National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”

WP3

STRENGTHENING NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

The goal of WP3 is to establish communication lines and build strong partnerships between the educational and research communities of Ukraine and the EU in mutually beneficial nuclear fields.

Objectives of WP3:

  • Development of national and international cooperation for boosting competences and better integration of UA stakeholders to European research area.

WP3 leader: National Scince Center Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology

WP4

CAPACITY BUILDING OF YOUTH

WP4 is focused on the support and engagement of Ukrainian NYG to nuclear research and education as well as their deeper integration to European research and education area.

Objectives of WP4:

  • Strengthening of mobility among Master students and PhD students;
  • Attraction of young generation to nuclear physics departments at Ukrainian Universities;
  • Creation of recommendations for Nuclear Young Generation (NYG) capacity building and integration.

WP4 leader: V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

WP5

COMMUNICATION, DISSEMINATION AND EXPLOITATION

WP5 aims at ensuring adequate strategies to promote the impact of the project and disseminate findings and information generated.
