UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA
FACULTY OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS
GRADUATE PROGRAM IN NUCLEAR ENGINEERING

(UL, LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA)

Nearly thirty years ago the University of Ljubljana initiated the graduate program in Nuclear Engineering. Today this program is conducted jointly by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and the “Jožef Stefan” Institute. The program serves needs of Slovenia and of the international community related to peaceful use of nuclear power. Its objective is qualified manpower development for nuclear facilities and organizations involved in nuclear power projects. In Slovenia these are primarily: Nuclear Power Plant KrškoSlovene Nuclear Safety AdministrationAgency for Radioactive Waste ManagementJožef Stefan Institute and other companies or institutions. University of Ljubljana is one of the founding ENEN Association members and has actively participated and contributed to all EU research projects related to education and training in various fields of nuclear science and engineering.

The graduate program is based on scientific, research and educational activities at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, and the Jožef Stefan Institute. It is carried out with the participation of technical faculties at the University of Ljubljana and University of Maribor. It is also financially supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. The students can choose:
• PhD Degree Program,
• Master of Science Degree Program

The curriculum takes into account the fact that nuclear engineering covers different professional disciplines. Emphasis is placed on four main fields:
• Nuclear Technology,
• Reactor Core,
• Nuclear Fuel and Materials,
• Radiology and Radiation Protection.
Available courses offer wide possibilities which can be tailored to goals, needs and wishes of each individual graduate student. The courses are selected by the candidate under guidance of his graduate advisor.
